Future Plans

After high school, I am planning to attend Santa Barbara City College for two years with a major in biology. While at SBCC, I hope to stay involved in leadership programs, work part-time, and if my schedule allows, take an art class. After two years at SBCC, I am planning to transfer to UCSB and major in marine biology. While at UCSB, I hope to do a semester abroad in Australia to further my passion for finding a way to restore coral reefs.

Over these four years in college, I also hope to get the opportunity to intern with a company dedicated to helping find a way to restore our oceans while keeping the community involved and trying to educate as many people as possible. The Coral Gardeners team is my number one choice at the moment. Although I would not be opposed to interning with companies outside of Coral, such as labs working on genetic development, companies getting rid of ocean plastics, or even a company that does manta ray or shark tours.

After graduating from UCSB, I plan to get my Master’s in Marine Biology and further my passion for restoring coral reefs by working with a research group. I plan to propose an idea about genetically modifying corals to find a way that helps make them more versatile in unstable ocean environments–and hopefully get the funding to do it.

While attending college, I also plan to minor in economics and finish my dream of getting my real estate license. I am also planning on investing a particular amount of money every month throughout all of my education. Then, hopefully after a few years of graduating from my Master’s program, I will begin to move my investments from the stock market to real estate. I hope to rent out houses in areas that are highly demanded for vacation rentals. This side of my future plans is more of a safety net–it ensures that no matter what my salary may end up being with whatever job I end up getting, I will still have enough money to be comfortable. Not worried about financial assets or burdens.

There are many plans and ideas that I have set in place regarding what my future may look like. However, there are many uncertainties that I still struggle to make a choice with. Yes, coral conservation is my number one choice but with a major in biology, my options are incredibly diverse. There is one future goal that I have set in stone though, which is to make some sort of positive impact on the world before I leave it.
