Dear Management at Coral Gardeners,

I am writing to express my strong interest as an intern at your organization, focusing on coral conservation, as advertised on your website’s job page. As a student with a strong interest in hands-on coral reef restoration, I am moved by your mission to revolutionize ocean conservation through science, community, and storytelling. This opportunity feels like the perfect match based on my academic background, creative perspective, and leadership experience.
Over the past few years, I’ve immersed myself in coral reef research and marine biology. I thrived throughout AP Biology, earned a passing score on the exam, and completed an independent research project focused on coral reefs, their biodiversity, bleaching impacts, how corals work, and sustainable restoration methods. I plan to pursue my passion for marine biology even further by following my current transfer path to attend UC Santa Barbara and major in aquatic biology.

Outside of the classroom, I have been very involved in student leadership and community building. I have been in charge of planning major school events, including prom during my junior year and my class’s senior trip to Disneyland. I served 3 years as an NCBI Leader, 2 years as a Link Crew Leader, and led fundraising events that raised over $40,000 for my graduating class, which was dedicated towards our class trip. These experiences have helped me strengthen my abilities to collaborate, inspire teams, brainstorm out-of-the-box ideas, and organize – skills that I know are vital when working with your team, who value outreach efforts and working in field environments.

Art is also a major part of my identity. Almost all of my artwork has been inspired by trying to show humanity’s connection to the ocean. From mixed-media pieces of jellyfish, to mixed-media reefscapes, to island-inspired drawings, to pen-illustrations of sea life. I believe that blending art and science can help others understand the importance of the ocean, sparking feelings of empathy and a need for action, and I love that Coral Gardeners holds creativity as a way to inspire and educate communities.

I would be honored to be given the opportunity to support your restoration projects, assist in field work, contribute to your mission to educate the world about corals, and learn more about the operation behind the Coral Gardeners Team. I have attached my resume and would greatly appreciate speaking with you further about how I can be helpful to your team.

Sincerely,
Jayden Johnson
